Second incident sees fresh delays on Auckland's City Rail Link
Delays and cancellations are affecting Auckland’s City Rail Link for the second time today after another incident this afternoon.
Auckland Transport (AT) alerted travellers at 1.40pm of an “emergency services incident” near Waitematā Station.
People were advised to check live departures and digital screens after delays and cancellations were announced on the East West and South City Lines.
Auckland Transport and police have been approached for comment.
Just a few hours earlier this morning, Auckland’s City Rail Link reopened after a fire alarm at Karanga-a-Hape Station caused services to be shut down.
All Onehunga West Line trains are also open again after earlier being cancelled, with bus detours in place.
Bus route 74 picked up rail passengers between Penrose, Te Papapa (on Church St) and Onehunga in both directions. Customers could transfer to the South City Line at Penrose.
About 5.30am this morning, Fire and Emergency responded to the alarm at Karanga-a-Hape Station, sending six fire crews – the standard response for a CRL alarm, northern shift manager Colin Underdown said.
It has since been determined the alert was a false alarm, Underdown said.
An Auckland Transport spokesperson said at 9am passengers could expect further delays and cancellations “while recovery continues”.
West and South City train lines were detouring and did not stop at CRL stations, Auckland Transport’s website said. Buses were accepting train tickets and passengers are asked to check digital display screens for the departure times.
The East-West Line detoured through Parnell between Kingsland and Ōrākei, and did not stop at Maungawhau, Karanga-a-Hape, Te Waihorotiu and Waitematā Stations.
South City Lines were terminated at Newmarket and did not stop at Grafton, Karanga-a-Hape, Te Waihorotiu, Waitematā and Parnell Stations.
