'I ran really fast': Man charged after women report being followed on Akl tracks
A man has been charged with intimidation after multiple women reported being followed in West Auckland.
The arrest comes after a local woman shared a Facebook post detailing a frightening encounter with a man on a section of the Zig Zag track, warning others in the Titirangi area to be cautious.
She claimed the man followed her along the popular walking track before running after her when she tried to leave.
“I ran really fast to my car, so fast my lungs were on fire and I’m pretty fit,” she wrote.
“I spent the day shaking like a leaf processing what happened.”
Her post prompted other members of the community to share their experiences, some claiming they had encountered the same man on the track years earlier.
“The same thing happened to me at Zig Zag track with the same man, like a good few years ago now.”
Another commenter claimed the man had a history of confronting people in the suburb. The commentator said his own wife was among those to had been targeted.
“Pretty sure this is the same guy that walks the Titirangi area and is known to have occasional outbursts/weird confrontations with others, particularly women.”
A third woman claimed the man had yelled at her and a friend outside a local eatery.
Acting Waitematā West area prevention manager Inspector Nick Salter said police were aware of the post and had since spoken with the man about his behaviour.
The 60-year-old had been charged with intimidation and would appear in Waitākere District Court on July 8.
Salter encouraged anyone feeling unsafe to contact 111 in an emergency or report any suspicious or intimidatory behaviours to 105, online or via the phone.
