Man 'covered in blood': Person in custody, victim suffers knife wounds in carpark fight

A man was seen covered in blood and screams rang out in an incident at West Auckland’s LynnMall that has left a person with serious injuries. 

Officers have blocked off a section of the carpark with a patrol car and more than half a dozen officers, including the crime squad, are at the scene. 

Hato Hone St John said they were notified of an incident on Great North Rd, New Lynn, at 11.12am, responding with an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle. 

One patient had been assessed by the ambulance crew and was being transported to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition. 

A worker from a nearby restaurant told the Herald she heard a woman screaming and looked out to see a man covered in blood. 

She wasn’t too sure what had happened but said police showed up 10 or 15 minutes later to assist with the situation. 

At least seven officers are stationed around the Brickworks dining precinct end of the mall. 

Traffic is being diverted around the area, 

Officers can be seen speaking to a woman outside the entrance. 

Police and Kiwi Property, the owners of LynMall, have been approached for comment. 

A shopper at the mall told the Herald he was in the bank when he heard people yelling and rushed out to see what was going on. 

He said he wasn’t sure what had happened but heard someone had been stabbed. 

Police are investigating an incident at West Auckland's LynnMall this morning after a person suffered serious injuries. 

Another restaurant worker said he saw a man walking across the car park and cutting a car off. 

He said they saw someone jump out of the car and the pair fight. 

Nearly two years ago, a female security guard working at LynnMall was stabbed when she intervened in a shoplifting incident at Woolworths. 

Three youths were arrested after the guard approached a youth who allegedly stabbed her with a knife. 

It was the same supermarket targeted in a terrorist attack in September 2021. Islamic State supporter Ahamed Aathill Mohamed Samsudeeen stabbed five people before he was shot dead at the supermarket.
