Dirt bike rider allegedly assaults police officer on foot patrol in West Auckland
Police are investigating after an officer was allegedly struck by a dirt bike rider while on foot patrol in West Auckland.
Staff were walking the beat on Great North Rd near Henderson’s WestCity mall when they came across a dirt biker riding in an “unsafe manner’ just after 11.30am.
Relieving Waitematā west area commander inspector Mohammed Atiq said the rider fell off his bike and was approached by officers.
“As they got near, the rider has struck one of our staff,” Atiq claimed.
Police are now trying to find the rider who abandoned his dirt bike and fled on foot towards Edsel St.
“Fortunately, our officer is not seriously injured but is being taken for precautionary medical checks. We are ensuring he has support.
“Police are very clear that illegal and unsafe activities involving dirt bikes will not be tolerated. We continue to encourage the community to report this behaviour to us as it occurs.”
