Truck crashes over median barrier on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway
Part of Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway is blocked in both directions after a truck crashed into a median barrier and is hanging over the edge.
Police are warning of delays on the highway around Pt Chevalier after the lunchtime single-vehicle smash.
Traffic is backed up for 3km.
Images supplied to the Herald show the flat deck truck, carrying road signs, had crashed before the St Lukes Rd offramp city bound.
The pictures show a wheel had mounted the barrier and the cab was hanging over the edge towards traffic heading to west Auckland.
Police said nobody was injured.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays on State Highway 16 following a crash this afternoon,” a police spokesperson said.
“Police were notified at 12.35pm, after a northbound vehicle hit the median barrier near the St Lukes off-ramp.
“A northbound lane is currently blocked and traffic is building. Heavy delays are expected, with Police advising motorists to avoid the area or seek an alternative route.”
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the crash near Great North Road was blocking lanes in both directions.
