Two popular American food chains to open first NZ stores

Popular American food chains Auntie Anne’s and Carvel will open their first New Zealand stores later this month.

The flagship stores will open at Auckland’s Westfield Newmarket on September 26.

Kathan Parikh acquired the franchise rights for New Zealand from global owners GoTo Foods International.

Parikh also owns the New Zealand franchise for Cinnabon, which he launched here in 2024.

“Westfield Newmarket was the location of our first New Zealand Cinnabon store, so it makes sense for our first Auntie Anne’s and Carvel store to be there too,” Parikh said.

“The prime position, foot traffic, proximity to businesses, shopping and transportation hubs makes it the perfect place to establish the new brands.”

Auntie Anne’s has more than 2000 locations worldwide, serving hand-baked pretzels, pretzel dogs and lemonades.

Carvel is best known for its soft serve ice cream, shakes and affogato, with more than 350 locations worldwide.

Parikh said Kiwis would love Auntie Anne’s pretzels.

“If you think of small, salty, crunchy snacks to have with drinks, or a dark, chewy, shiny bread when you think of pretzels, think again,” he said.

“Auntie Anne’s American Pretzels are soft, pillowy, sweet and buttery, and are lightly toasted with a sweet glaze.”
