'Significant seizure': Police find $40m cocaine haul in South Auckland container
Police have launched an investigation after an estimated $40million worth of cocaine was found in South Auckland.
Officers were called to a facility yesterday morning after staff discovered several suspicious bags in a container.
The haul weighed 137kg and consisted of 137 individual bricks of the class A drug.
Detective Inspector Karen Bright said a further search also uncovered two Glock pistols, ammunition magazines and around 200 rounds of ammunition.
The shipment arrived from Netherlands via Balboa, Panama, she said.
“This is a significant seizure of cocaine for this country.”
“We can confirm the cocaine has been seized, and further enquiries are underway into the shipment at present.
“Police will be liaising with international law enforcement partners, and we acknowledge the assistance of New Zealand Customs with our enquiries so far.”
