Bruno Mars bringing record-breaking tour to Eden Park

Global pop juggernaut Bruno Mars will perform at Eden Park next year, returning to New Zealand after nearly 10 years.

The singer’s record-breaking The Romantic Tour will touch down in Auckland on March 13 after multiple Australian dates.

Fellow Grammy winners Tyla and Mars’ Silk Sonic bandmate Anderson .Paak (under the alias DJ Pee .Wee) will join the Grenade and Locked Out Of Heaven singer for the one-off Auckland show.

The concert is part of the Government’s $40 million one-off Events Attraction Package. It will be the first event next year under the new resource consent rules at Eden Park.

The rules, which took effect in April, allow up to 12 large concerts and 20 medium concerts without needing resource consent.

“It’s fantastic to see global superstar Bruno Mars bringing his tour to New Zealand,” Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston said, adding that concerts of such scale attracted visitors and provided “a welcome economic boost” for businesses and communities.

“Alongside an incredible live music experience, these concerts help showcase New Zealand as a vibrant destination capable of hosting world-class events.”

Mars, who exploded on to the scene in the early 2010s with Doo-Wops & Hooligans, was last here in February and March 2018, selling out his four-date 24K Magic Tour residency at the 13,280-capacity Spark Arena in Auckland within minutes.

Writing for the Herald, Siena Yates praised Mars’ showmanship and musical chops.

“The best thing about this show is that every aspect of it is part of the performance. There’s choreographed dancing, a skit complete with props, dance interludes, and even the audience participation is carefully orchestrated for maximum effect,” Yates wrote.

Mars also performed in New Zealand in 2011 and 2014 on the Doo-Wops & Hooligans and Moonshine Jungle tours.

The Romantic Tour supports his 2026 Billboard No 1 album The Romantic, and has so far delivered the largest single-day ticket sales for promoter Live Nation across North America, Europe and the United Kingdom.

It also set a new Ticketmaster record, with 2.1 million tickets sold in a single day.

Mars is one of the best-selling music artists, selling more than 236 million records during his nearly two-decade career.

His recent Las Vegas residency at the Park MGM hotel was estimated to have brought in millions of dollars per show.

Silk Sonic, his musical project with Anderson .Paak, scored hit singles with Leave The Door Open and Skate.
