Lionel Richie reportedly remains in ICU after an on-stage struggle over the weekend.

The legendary 77-year-old musician was expected to be discharged from a hospital in St Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday.

However, Richie is still being treated as medics investigate possible cardiac-related issues and he is now expected to be released on Thursday, according to TMZ.

According to the outlet, the four-time Grammy winner asked his team to bring on a chair as he finished Sunday’s gig at The Muny in St Louis with a rendition of All Night Long (All Night).

Shortly after the concert, Richie checked himself into hospital out of caution to get some tests done. He was treated in the intensive care unit.

The next show on his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour is set for September 26 in San Francisco.

In July, Richie returned to the stage after a health scare that brought the opening week of his tour to an unexpected halt.

According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, he had been performing Dancing on the Ceiling during the opening night of the tour in St Paul, Minnesota, when he began to feel dizzy and took a seat on stage before leaving the performance early.

Richie resumed his tour in Pittsburgh after postponing performances in Chicago, Illinois, and Columbus, Ohio, as doctors advised him to rest.

Updating fans after returning to the stage in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Detroit, Michigan, the Hello artist posted on Instagram: “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love.

“I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you.

“Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together. See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long.”

Before returning to the stage, promoters announced Richie had postponed two performances after receiving medical advice to rest.

In a statement shared by Live Nation Chicago and the United Centre on Instagram, organisers said: “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his show on Friday, June 26, in Chicago, IL, and Saturday, June 27, in Columbus, OH.

“He and Earth, Wind and Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30, in Pittsburgh, PA. Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back to performing for his fans.”
