Police probe alleged ‘inappropriate content’ sharing on MAFS
Married at First Sight Australia is being investigated by police after “inappropriate content” was allegedly shared.
In a statement provided to foreign media, the New South Wales Police Force confirmed they began investigating the situation in August.
“Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command commenced an investigation following a report of inappropriate content being shared.
“Following inquiries, the matter will be referred to WA [Western Australia] Police Force,” the spokesperson said.
Filming for the show’s 14th season began in July and a release date is set for February next year, according to News.com.au.
TV Blackbox reported that a male contestant lodged a formal complaint about producers allegedly sharing private information about him and an ex-partner with his on-screen bride, which sparked a police inquiry.
WA Police told several outlets it had not yet received the referral.
“We understand NSW Police intend to refer a matter to the WA Police Force; however, the referral has not yet been received.”
A spokesperson for Channel 9, which airs the programme across the ditch, referred all comment to the show’s production company Endemol Shine Australia.
It has not responded to requests for comment from foreign media.
It was separately revealed this year that the show received several safe work notices after multiple contestants alleged unsafe behaviour.
The programme was issued three notices by the watchdog to manage psychological hazards, undergo workplace health and safety training, and improve its reporting of on-set incidents, News.com.au reported.
The complaints arose from filming of the 2025 season.
A separate BBC Panorama documentary this year detailed sexual assault and misconduct allegations from contestants on the British edition of the show.
Two women alleged rape by their on-screen husbands and a third alleged sexual misconduct, according to the Independent.
All three accused men deny the allegations.
The Australian and British versions of the show are made by different production companies.
