Person taken into custody after armed police callout in Christchurch
Armed police have descended on a central Christchurch street after a person was reported to have been seriously injured with a weapon.
Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison said police responded to the incident in Linwood around 11am after receiving a report of someone being injured on Stanmore Rd.
“Police responded immediately and one person was taken into custody.
“While clearing the address, police have established there were no other parties present and no injuries, and the validity of the report has not been upheld.”
Ellison said officers are now speaking with the person to establish exactly what has happened.

During the initial response, police officers could be seen carrying firearms on the corner of Armagh St and outside a property on nearby Stanmore Rd.
Several police units were in attendance.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified about the incident shortly after 11am.

An ambulance and operations manager responded to the scene but were not required to treat or assess anyone, Hato Hone St John said.
