An autopsy on a body found in a South Auckland park pond is expected to take place today, as the death remains unexplained.
The body was found in Rongomai Park, Flat Bush, yesterday after emergency services were called around 4.08pm.
A member of the public located the body in a secluded area within the park, near ÅŒtara. It was later recovered by police search and rescue.
The death remains unexplained, and formal identification procedures are underway, a police spokesperson said.

Yesterday, police search and rescue were at the scene to carry out a recovery operation.
Walkway entrances into the park – which is next to Te Irirangi Drive – were temporarily cordoned off while police worked in the area.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said an ambulance also attended.
A Herald photographer at the scene yesterday said police search and rescue staff, wearing PPE and waders, were preparing to deploy an inflatable boat into the pond within the reserve.
