Workers rescued from Christchurch rooftop, windows smashed amid strong winds
Three people have been rescued from a rooftop, while a window at the Gondola has been shattered as wind creates chaos across Christchurch this afternoon.
Fire and Emergency said that shortly after 1pm, crews responded after a fallen power line left three workers trapped on a roof on Ferry Rd in Woolston.
A shift manager said the power line went down on a building with scaffolding, leaving the workers trapped until the line was isolated.
After the power was cut, the workers got down uninjured, they said.

Wind also caused a panelled window of glass at the bottom terminal of the Christchurch Gondola to shatter shortly after 11.30am.
Crews responded and assisted with cordoning off the area.

No injuries were reported in either event. Throughout the rest of the city, Fire and Emergency said crews have responded to fallen trees, power lines and an incident in which the wind sent debris flying through the front window of a home.
According to MetService, strong 67km/h gusts are in store for the city today and are expected to ease this evening.
