One person is injured after a crash on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway, with traffic slowing to a crawl in both directions while emergency services clear the scene.

The crash, which earlier blocked two westbound lanes but has since been reduced to one, occurred on the State Highway 16 causeway between Waterview and Te Atatū, according to NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

Hato Hone St John said it was alerted to the crash at 10.35am and responded to the call with one ambulance.

Paramedics assessed a patient at the scene, who was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.

Traffic cameras show heavy congestion for westbound vehicles, with traffic heading into the city also slowing to a crawl.

“One lane has reopened, the right westbound lane remains blocked,” NZTA said.

“Pass with care and expect delays.”

Google Traffic data shows vehicle movement being restricted in both directions.

Westbound traffic has stalled from the Waterview Connection interchange, while eastbound traffic has slowed significantly around the Patiki Rd and Rosebank Rd turn-offs.

Police have been approached for comment.
