Roads in Northland have been affected by Cyclone Vaianu’s heavy rains and gale-force winds.
NZTA said the severe weather has impacted state highways, with crews responding to various issues such as fallen trees, damaged streetlights on the road, debris, flooding and minor slips.
An NZTA spokesperson said a small slip has closed the shoulder on State Highway 1 on the Brynderwyn Hills near the intersection with SH12.
A short period of stop/go will be required today for clean-up.
NZTA is monitoring the river at SH1 Whakapara. If rain gets heavier, this area may flood.
The Mangamuka Gorge reopened at 9am.
SH15 is closed between Cemetery and Loop roads because of flooding, with a detour available via SH1.
