The quake hit 5km south of Taumarunui at 4.51am, at a depth of 9km.

Nearly 23,000 people have reported feeling the shaking, marked as âsevereâ on Geonet, from as far north as Auckland to the top of the South Island - with a few people even reporting feeling it in Dunedin.
