One person has died after a serious single-vehicle crash this morning that closed State Highway 25 at Waitakaruru in Waikato.

Emergency services were called to the crash between Canal East Rd and Pouarua Rd North shortly before 11am.

A police spokesperson said the sole occupant died at the scene.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and expect delays while the road remains closed.
