'Keep your child home': Classes off as teacher illness affects school
An Auckland school has told parents to keep their kids at home today because too many teachers are sick.
In a notice to parents yesterday, Remuera Intermediate said it no longer had enough teachers for all classes.
“Due to an exceptionally high number of staff absences, we can no longer ensure adequate cover for all classes tomorrow (Friday).
“We know this is very short notice, but if you are able to keep your child home tomorrow, please do so. This will greatly help our remaining team and give our sick staff time to recover.”
Attendance records of children kept home wouldn’t be affected, and students could still use online teaching resources, the school wrote.
Parents who couldn’t keep their kids home were asked to send them to one of two classrooms kept open for each year group.
“This is not a decision we have made lightly, and we truly appreciate your incredible understanding, flexibility and support.”
More than 900 students attend the school, according to its website.
It caters to Year 7 and Year 8 students aged 11 to 13.
