One person has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition after a crash near a picturesque Otago tourist beauty spot.

Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash on Purakaunui Falls Rd in the Clutha District about 11.45am today.

The crash was near the popular Purakaunui Falls walking track.

Hato Hone St John responded with a helicopter and first response unit.

One person was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition.

Police say the road may be blocked while emergency services are in attendance.
