Woman who died in major Auckland highway crash named by police
Police have named the woman who died after a crash in North Auckland last week.
She was 74-year-old Raewyn Dene Abraham from Devonport.
The crash happened close to River Rd on State Highway 1, near Wellsford, on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services were alerted about 2pm.
Traffic was brought to a standstill in either direction while the Serious Crash Unit investigated.
A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said two helicopters responded.
One patient was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition while another was airlifted to Whangārei Hospital in a serious condition.
A witness told the Herald that traffic had been backed up a long way from the crash and cars were being sent back in the direction of Whangārei.
Police were still investigating the cause of the crash.
“Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this incredibly hard time,” a spokesperson said.
