'No balls and one strike': MLB rookie hospitalised after rupturing testicle in game
A Major League Baseball rookie was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after rupturing his testicle during a game.
Oakland Athletics player Joshua Kuroda-Grauer was seen hitting a foul ball into his groin region during a match against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The 23-year-old was then seen lying prone on the ground being attended to by team staff before eventually standing up and continuing to play.
The infielder was then able to face the pitcher again, eventually making a hit, but was later unable to complete the game.
The Athletics have since confirmed he had been put on the 10-day injured list after surgery for a ruptured testicle.
The club said he is resting comfortably after the operation at St Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.

“Yep, that’ll hurt,” the commentator said.
“I don’t know if that’s one an ice pack can take care of ... just walk it off, there’s not much that can be done here.”
As Kuroda-Grauer returned to his batting stance, the commentator could be heard saying “No balls and one strike”.
The incident overshadowed what should have been a positive night for the youngster as he had earlier hit his first-career home run in the second inning and increased his batting average.

The injury eventually forced him out of the game in the sixth inning, but the Athletics were able to go on and record a 5-2 victory.
The 23-year-old, who played college baseball at Rutgers University, made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut at the end of June having been drafted by the Athletics in 2024 and spending time in the minor leagues.
The last MLB player to suffer a ruptured testicle was Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger, when he fouled a ball off on himself in the third inning of a loss to the Houston Astros.
In 2009, Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre was sidelined with a severely bruised testicle after a hit from an opposing Chicago Cubs player hit him in the groin area.
