Teen allegedly assaults child on Porirua playground, police investigate
Police are investigating after a teenager allegedly assaulted a child at a Porirua playground.
The incident, which police described as “serious”, happened after hours at a school near Spinnaker Dr in Whitby on Thursday, August 27.
The child and teen were at the school’s playground about 5.30pm when the teenager reportedly assaulted the child.
“The victim did not receive any physical injuries, but they and their family were understandably very shaken by the incident,” Kāpiti Mana investigations manager Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Middlemiss said in a statement.
Police want to hear from anyone who witnessed a male leaving the school grounds onto the Whitby walkway about this time.
The alleged offender is described as Caucasian, about 16 years old, of medium height with dark-coloured hair.
He was wearing a school uniform of grey trousers, a white shirt and a dark-coloured jersey.
Police are conducting a number of enquiries and anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.
