At least 43 people have been killed in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo by rebels linked to the Islamic State group, the army has said.
The attack by the ADF rebel fighters occurred on Wednesday in the volatile province of Ituri, regional army spokesman Jules Tshikudi Ngongo said.
The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group led by former Ugandan rebels that has sworn allegiance to IS, is repeatedly accused of committing massacres in Ituri and neighbouring North Kivu province.
“The toll is 43 compatriots were killed and 44 houses torched,” Ngongo said of the attack in Bafwakoa, 300km from the provincial capital, Bunia.
