'It makes sense': John Key defends Luxon's Defence Force flight

A predecessor of Chris Luxon is unconcerned about his non-emergency use of Defence Force aircraft.

Luxon's justifying taking dozens of military domestic flights this term - including twice between Auckland and Waikato.

He says he only uses them when necessary. 

Former Prime Minister Sir John Key says the aircraft are there to be used, and doing so can make practical sense at virtually no cost. 

"The pilot is already being paid for by the Air Force, the plane is being depreciated whether he uses it or not - in fact, actually, if you don't fly them, then their parts just get ripped out, unused."
