Barry Soper: Labour needs to keep Trevor Mallard at arms length

Both major parties are kicking off their campaigns today in Auckland, with Labour and National hitting the trail to reach out to voters.

Labour made an appearance at the Ōtara markets on Saturday - and a familiar face from the Ardern era made an appearance alongside Hipkins.

Newstalk ZB senior political correspondent Barry Soper said the emergence of former Labour Speaker Trevor Mallard could remind voters of the previous Government, and the party should try keep their distance.
