Jade's Law: Mother of 18-year-old killed in crash calls for tougher sentencing

Jade Evans was driving home for her family dinner when she was killed by a truck who did not stop at a stop sign.

Jade was only 18 years old and carrying her unborn child Lily when she died, now her mother Kathryn Stothers is calling for stronger accountability from careless drivers.

The driver's sentence was two months' community detention, losing his licence for 12 months and reparations of $8000 to the family.

Stothers has launched a petition 'Jade's Law' calling for changes to legislation for stronger accountability for failing to follow road rules, matching other countries like UK where a similar crime results in 5 years imprisonment.

Stothers joins Nick Mills on the show this morning to share her story, and to make sure this doesn't happen again.
