Gang member facing raft of shoplifting charges for goods worth $10k
A gang member faces $10,000 worth of shoplifting charges after a spate of theft.
Police were called to a liquor store on Henderson Valley Rd on Friday afternoon after receiving reports that a man allegedly stole three bottles of alcohol.
The accused 33-year-old was also found to be in breach of bail when police checks found the vehicle he was travelling in was reported stolen.
He has been charged with 13 counts of shoplifting and was due to appear in Waitākere District Court today.
Waitematā west area response manager Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop said police sighted a vehicle matching a description provided, about 15 minutes after being notified.
The alleged offender’s clothing also matched the man in question.
“The man has initially provided false details before a search of the vehicle located three bottles of alcohol,” Winthrop said.
“Officers also conducted checks on the vehicle’s registration number and found that it did not match the vehicle’s make and model.”
Police records revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen in what Winthrop described as a “great catch” by officers.
“The man was also found to be in breach of bail and was sought for 13 separate shoplifting incidents.
“We have zero tolerance for anyone who targets businesses in our community. These people work hard to provide a service for their local community, and we will continue to crack down on this type of crime.”
