A teen has been accused of stealing more than $6000 worth of Pokemon cards from a West Auckland store.

Waitematā west area investigations manager Detective Senior Sergeant Adam Lough said the 13-year-old allegedly fled with a binder of valuable cards from the Henderson store last month while the shopkeeper was distracted.

The teen was identified and a home searched last Thursday.

“Some of the cards were recovered while others had already been swapped.”

Police are asking the public to be wary about swapping cards.

“Staff worked very quickly to identify the alleged offender and recover the cards,” Lough said.

Anyone who thinks they have swapped stolen cards, or has other information, can update police online or call 105 using the reference number 260827/1132.

The 13-year-old will be referred to Youth Aid.
