Two Auckland motorway crashes overnight leave one dead, several injured
Two serious crashes on Auckland’s Southern Motorway overnight have left one person dead and several others injured.
Police say the first, a single-vehicle crash near the East Tamaki off-ramp, was reported just before 9pm last night.
The sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.
The Southern Motorway was closed southbound following the crash but has since re-opened.
Inquiries into the circumstances of that crash are ongoing.
Just hours later, multiple vehicles collided on the same motorway in another serious crash.
The second, three-vehicle crash, occurred northbound near the Southern to North-Western Link at around 1.40am.
It’s understood injuries range from moderate to serious.
The road was closed for a time but later re-opened.
