Auckland trains resume after outage causes delays, cancellations

A power line issue is affecting trains across Auckland, with widespread delays and cancellations affecting the entire network.

Auckland Transport (AT) has issued an alert to travellers, which said all trains on the network were currently experiencing delays and cancellations.

AT said in the alert that the cancellations were because of a power line issue between Penrose and Ōrākei.

Travellers are being advised to check the live departure screens at the stations before they board.

The alert was issued at 12.55pm.

This comes after Auckland trains had their busiest week ever in the first seven days of the City Rail Link’s operations.

There were 528,007 train boardings between September 13-19, beating the previous seven-day record of 504,380 set in March 2019 by more than 23,000.

“The CRL is one of the most significant transport investments in New Zealand’s history, and it’s fantastic to see Aucklanders getting on board in such huge numbers after waiting years for its arrival,” Transport Minister Chris Bishop said.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said the focus was now on maintaining momentum and growing patronage.

The CRL had its first real test last week as thousands flocked to Eden Park for the Warriors v Knights match.
