Hoarder's house near Blenheim 'significantly damaged' by overnight blaze

Firefighters have worked through the night battling a blaze at a hoarder’s house near Blenheim.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said earlier that seven fire engines, several water tankers and a support vehicle had been involved in the response.

The house fire in Spring Creek, about 6km north of the Blenheim township, started just after midnight.

The spokesperson described the house as a hoarder’s property.

Shift manager Bailey Wells said the home is “significantly damaged”.

Some crews are still on site “working through a lot of the debris on site and just ensuring it’s all safe and extinguished”.

This morning, a digger was at the scene, clearing items from the occupant’s backyard, after the fire spread beyond the house.

No injuries have been reported.
