'There for some time': Couple found dead in Gisborne cabin, deaths unexplained
Police are treating the deaths of a couple found in a Gisborne cabin this week as unexplained.
Police went to a small cabin off Awapuni Rd, on the seaward side of the airport near the golf course and speedway, on Wednesday as part of a missing persons inquiry.
Inside, they found the bodies of a man and woman.
“They found two people inside, a man aged 59, and a woman aged 42, and they were deceased,” Gisborne CIB head Detective Senior Sergeant John Love said.
“The bodies had been in there for some time. How they died is not known at this time.”
Love said autopsies will take place in Hamilton on Saturday.
“The two people were a couple, they were partners,” he said.
“They were not from here, both new to Gisborne and fairly transient, from the Manawatū area originally.
“Their families have been notified.”
Love said there were no suspicious circumstances.
“We are treating their deaths as unexplained at this stage.”
