Police have found a body in the search for a Christchurch woman who was missing for nearly a week.

Adele, 69, was last seen on Monday leaving Eastgate Mall after lunchtime.

Following extensive searches by police and Land Search and Rescue volunteers, alongside information provided by the public, a woman’s body was found at a property on Gayhurst Rd last night.

While formal identification was yet to be completed, police said the body was believed to be that of Adele.

Detective Sergeant Luke Vaughan said police were supporting Adele’s family during this difficult time.

“This is not the outcome we were hoping for, however, we are pleased her family have received some closure,” he said.

“We would like to thank everyone within the community for all their assistance, and the dedication of the search crews who have worked so hard over the past week.”

As the death will be referred to the coroner, police are unable to comment further.

On Saturday, police and volunteers also searched for a man who was separated from his family in Hanmer Springs.

Patrick Eager, 26, was last seen just before 10am on Saturday on the Conical Hill Track in Hanmer Springs after becoming separated from his family while walking towards the summit.

Police earlier said the 26-year-old was autistic and non-verbal, and they were concerned for his welfare as he was both unfamiliar with the area and unlikely to seek help.

About 30 volunteers from Land Search and Rescue joined the police search-and-rescue teams in a co-ordinated effort to find Eager.

She was found lying in long grass on Tunnel Rd, State Highway 74, in Heathcote, between the walking track and the road.

Throughout the search, police carried out detailed inquiries, including an initial search and reviewing hours of CCTV and traffic camera footage.
