Homicide probe launched after woman dies at Christchurch flat where party held

A homicide investigation has been launched after a woman died in Christchurch this morning. 

Police were called to a Purchas St property in Edgeware just before 6am. 

“Upon arrival, a woman was located deceased,” Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said. 

“A second person who was at the address is currently assisting Police with enquiries. 

“Police are not seeking anybody else in relation to this incident, and there is not believed to be any risk to public safety.”

Baillie said a scene guard is in place and residents can “expect to see an increased Police presence in the area”. 

“Staff will also be conducting reassurance patrols in the coming days,” he said.

A neighbour said there was a rowdy party at the flat last night, which was a frequent occurrence. 

They said they heard 10 loud bangs from the back flat at 3am.
