Four people have been arrested in a police operation involving the Eagle helicopter after an alleged shoplifting in West Auckland this morning.

About 9.25am, three people allegedly entered a store on Lincoln Rd, Henderson and stole appliances, police said.

One of the alleged thieves pushed a worker after the theft before fleeing in a vehicle, it was reported.

The police Eagle helicopter attended to assist with locating the vehicle.

It came to a stop on Saltaire St in Avondale and the occupants attempted to flee on foot.

Four people have been taken into custody and charges are pending, police said.

Two people were arrested about 9.40am and the other two just before 10am.

A Herald reporter at the scene said four police vehicles had arrived on Victor St shortly before 10.30am, with officers then seen entering a residential property.

Officers remained for about 20 minutes as they took one person into custody, with the police Eagle helicopter circling above for several minutes.

A Green Party stand-up was held near where a person was arrested after an alleged West Auckland theft this morning.

Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick was expected to hold a stand-up at a nearby intersection at the time, but this was moved without notice.

The party told the Herald the stand-up was moved for logistical reasons as journalists were already at the Avondale Markets, where Swarbrick was visiting.

It was not related to the police incident, the party said.
