More than a dozen fire crews are responding to a major blaze at a boat building facility in West Auckland, which has sent black smoke rising over the city and prompted health warnings from officials.
The smoke can be seen from as far away as Mairangi Bay and Pt Chevalier, where one witness filmed a dark plume rising from the Glendene industrial precinct several kilometres away.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said 14 crews - including support crews - were fighting the blaze.
“People in the vicinity of the fire are advised to keep windows and doors closed if impacted by smoke.

“The public is also being asked to avoid the area.”
Police also said they were at the scene, aiding Fire and Emergency’s response in a traffic management capacity.
