Two hospitalised after incident onboard ship at Christchurch's Lyttelton Port
Two people have been hospitalised after an incident onboard a container ship berthed at Christchurch’s Lyttelton Port.
Hato Hone St John said they responded to Gladstone Quay at 10.56am with a helicopter, two ambulances, an operations manager and two rapid response vehicles.
Two patients are currently being transported to Christchurch Hospital, a St John spokesperson said, with one in a serious condition and one moderate.
Lyttelton Port Company said an incident had occurred on a berthed vessel “involving a crew member”.

They said no Lyttelton Port Company staff were involved and referred to emergency services for more information.
Fire and Emergency NZ said crews attended the incident.

They confirmed there was no fire on board the vessel, but they remained on site assisting Hato Hone St John.
The vessel, a Norfolk-branded cargo ship built in 2009, is more than 200m long and is currently sailing under the flag of Liberia.
It arrived at Lyttelton Port yesterday.
Police said they were advised of an incident at the port at around 11.20am.
“Two people are seriously injured with emergency services actively working at the scene,” Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer-Keer of Canterbury District Command Centre said.
