Man arrested after allegedly hitting, critically injuring person at boy racer event
Police have arrested a man over an alleged boy racer incident near Feilding that critically injured a person in the weekend.
The victim was found with extensive injuries after being hit by a car on Halcombe Rd about 12.20am on Saturday, acting Detective Sergeant Grant Christian said.
He remains in serious condition at Wellington Hospital and is supported by his family members.
The incident happened less than two hours before a police officer was critically injured in nearby Palmerston North. The two cases are not believed to be connected.
Christian said police have now arrested a man, 20, in relation to the injured man, which happened during anti-social road user activity.
He is due to appear in Palmerston North District Court on September 1, charged with driving with sustained loss of traction causing injury.
“As part of our ongoing inquiries, police are seeking information regarding the whereabouts of a green 2000 Ford Falcon AU Futura sedan vehicle, which is believed to be involved.
“Police would like to thank all those who have come forward with information so far, and we continue to ask that any witnesses of the incident, any information about the green Falcon, and anyone with relevant video footage, to please get in touch,” Christian said.

Police earlier said they understood people might have video footage of the incident, but could be facing pressure from others not to speak to police.
“If you have any concerns, you can be assured that your information will be treated with the utmost confidence if you wish,” they said.
“This is a traumatic incident and something that could have so easily been avoided.
“Anti-social road activity is extremely dangerous, whether you are taking part or simply just observing, and this incident should be a reminder of that.”
