'Nice, quiet people': Man faces double murder, attempted murder charges after North Shore stabbings
Two people described by neighbours as “nice, quiet people” were found dead and a third injured on Auckland’s North Shore last night.
Police were initially called to a residential address on Seon Pl, Birkdale at around 8.21pm after reports that a person had been stabbed.
Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said a man at the home suffered moderate injuries.
The alleged offender was arrested at the address.
“While speaking with this male, information has prompted us to dispatch a unit to a property at Lingfield St in Glenfield to conduct a welfare check.”

A man and woman were found dead at that property, which is 5km away.
“This is an awful set of events. I know this will leave many in our community unsettled, but what I can say at this early stage of the investigation is that the offender and victims are all known to each other,” Goldie said.
An increased police presence will be around the two suburbs, but Goldie said there was no ongoing threat to the wider community.

A scene guard is in place at both addresses, and police will be conducting scene examinations over the coming days as well as area inquiries.
“Post-mortem examinations will take place in due course, which will include formal identification procedures.”
This morning police remained stationed outside the Lingfield St property as parents walked their children to school.
Crime tape was strung across the bottom of the driveway with a police command vehicle parked across the entrance.
A neighbour said about six police cars lined the street when he got home from work about 11pm.
He said he would occasionally stop and talk to the people living in the house and that they were “nice, quiet people”.
“It’s very sad.”
Another neighbour told the Herald she heard “sirens going crazy” around 10pm but heard nothing beforehand.
She said she didn’t personally know the residents but said they were always quiet.
“My sister said it sounded like someone was dying with the amount of sirens.”

Police are also at the scene of the second home connected with the alleged stabbings.
A patrol car was parked at the top of a long steep drive blocked off by crime scene tape with several officers nearby. The property sits at the back of a construction site where tradesmen are continuing to work.
An NZ Post employee carrying a parceljust told the Herald he had a delivery for the affected address.
Last night police said one person was in custody, and no one else was sought in connection with the incident.
Hato Hone St John responded to the incident at 8.40pm, sending an ambulance, a rapid response unit and an operations manager to the scene, a spokesman said.
He referred all further inquiries to police.
A 41-year-old man will appear in the North Shore District Court today charged with two counts of murder as well as attempted murder.
