Man seen shooting at person on street before hours-long siege at Massey home
A neighbour says a man opened fire on the street before an hours-long standoff in a West Auckland house last night.
A Massey townhouse is this morning under police guard after a man at the centre of a siege was critically injured as the standoff came to an end.
Neighbours of the Mānutewhau Rd property told the Herald the man aimed a weapon at another man outside on the street.
“I saw him shooting at a guy, aiming his gun, he was just angry at everything.”
One neighbour ushered her family into a bathroom as the shots rang out while another locked himself behind his ranch slider.
Police have been approached for comment.
Emergency services were called to reports of a man with a firearm at a property near Moire Park, just before 9pm.
Hato Hone St John said last night one person in a critical condition was being transported to Auckland City Hospital.
Police cordoned off the street.
A person at the scene told the Herald several loud bangs rang out about 11pm, setting off dogs in the neighbourhood.
Video footage showed an ambulance racing down the street shortly afterwards.
Police yesterday said the situation was “confined to the property” and urged people to avoid the area.

One person reported they had been told by an officer to stay inside and lock their door.
Other residents said they could hear emergency service sirens and the police eagle helicopter circling.
This morning a neighbour said he had recently heard yelling coming from the property at the centre of the siege.
“Every week or so, or every month or so, we’d hear a lot of yelling.“
He said it was “ongoing” and was getting more frequent.

He was not sure if the man at the centre of the standoff lived at the property or not.
The townhouse remained cordoned off, with a police officer stationed outside.
