One person has been taken to hospital after a tractor-trailer was clipped by a car and overturned in Motueka.

Emergency services were notified of the crash on King Edward and Queen Victoria Sts about 1.55pm.

“Two patients were assessed at the scene, with one transported to Nelson Hospital by ambulance in a moderate condition,” Hato Hone St John said.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Bailey Wells said crews from Motueka “assisted police and ambulance on scene and they’ve since left”.

“All persons are out of the vehicles.”

Mark Carey Contracting co-owner Anne Carey, whose company owns the tractor-trailer involved in the crash, said the driver is “fine” and escaped with minor injuries.

“He was coming from Riwaka way and coming through the intersection and apparently a car went through the stop sign and connected with his rear tyre,” Carey told the Herald.

“He’s fine. He has minor injuries and he’s being assessed in the ambulance at the moment, so yeah, he’s talking.”

Carey said the driver of the car was also doing fine.
