Train services resume after student reportedly struck at Auckland station
A student has reportedly been struck by a train near Mt Albert, prompting a large emergency response.
The serious incident was reported at 3.28pm at the station on Baldwin Ave.
A tarpaulin was attached to the side of the train, which was stopped on the line.
“There is no ongoing risk, but police ask the public to avoid the station at this time,” police said.
Hato Hone St John told the Herald it responded with an ambulance and rapid response unit.
Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS) students were in the surrounding area, while headmaster Patrick Drumm was behind the police cordon.
Outside the train station, MAGS staff members were chaperoning students home.

Poppy Curnow Booker, who was on board during the incident, told Stuff the train slammed on the brakes and derailed when the driver saw a student.
She said a student had been struck.
Another passenger on the train told the Herald they felt a double jolt after leaving the station and suddenly the train stopped.
Passengers said police told them only that there had been an incident.
A tarpaulin was attached to the side of the train as emergency services dealt with the incident.
Auckland Transport (AT) said there were delays and cancellations on the Western Line after the incident.
In an update shortly before 6pm, AT said some train services would resume between Waitematā (Britomart) and Morningside, and between Avondale and Swanson. It warned the services would be intermittent.
Rail replacement buses were also supporting passengers on the Western Line between Waitematā and Swanson.
AT encouraged passengers to check its journey planner or mobile app for the latest information before travelling home.
Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa Ward councillor Julie Fairey advised locals on Facebook to stay away from the scene.
“There has been a transport incident, and more people coming into the area is unhelpful at the moment – the police and security are there, and traffic management is coming for Rossgrove Tce,” Fairey wrote.
There were delays and cancellations on the Western Line after the incident at Baldwin Ave train station.
She said the station and the level crossing would be closed for hours to come.
“Thinking of all of those involved.”
