Vehicle catches fire after getting stuck in Gulf Harbour golf course tunnel

A vehicle has caught fire after becoming stuck in a tunnel at a golf course in northern Auckland.

About 12.46pm, police said they were advised a vehicle had become stuck in a tunnel under Gulf Harbour Drive and caught fire.

Photos on social media of the scene showed a plume of grey smoke near the surrounding homes.

The tunnel appeared to be an underpass located at the now-defunct Gulf Harbour Country Club.

Police confirmed no injuries were reported.

“Police are speaking to the occupants of the vehicle to understand the circumstances around what has occurred,” the spokesperson said.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson told the Herald one fire engine from Silverdale attended the scene after reports of a car fire at 12.46pm.

The spokesperson said no one was trapped in the vehicle and it was later extinguished.
