'I couldn’t be more keen': Calver on A-League comeback with Auckland FC
Auckland FC’s latest defensive signing Aaron Calver has his sights set on more silverware with his return to the A-League.
The 30-year-old won two A-League premierships with Sydney FC and one championship at the Australian side, leaving for Korea after spells with Western United and Perth Glory and securing the 2022 Korean K League 2 Champion.
Calver told Newstalk ZB’s Jason Pine that he was excited to be returning to the A-League.
“I couldn’t be more keen, to be honest,” Calver told Pine.
“I had a couple of months there in the wilderness after I came back from Korea, where I just went and played some games down in the [Australian National Premier League], which was probably really good.
“I hadn’t had a consistent run of games like that over in Korea in my last year, so it’s good to be back fully fit, playing and everything.

“I’d definitely love to win something here again, it’s going to be great.”
The defender explained how things might not have panned out as he hoped in Asia, but the experience taught him plenty as an athlete.
“It was great to go and test myself at pretty high levels of football, it doesn’t always pan out the way you want, but I had, overall, a pretty successful time there, besides probably the last year of my contract.
“So, it was an unreal experience and I learned a lot, but it’s good to be home.”
The 30-year-old’s experience in Korea and in the A-League is something he hopes to use in a leadership role for Auckland FC.
“I think I’m pretty calm and composed compared to maybe when I was a younger kid.
“You just learn along the way and hopefully I can guide some of these younger defenders that we have around me.
“So, nothing too extravagant, but I think that just happens as you accumulate years as a pro.”
Calver also set out what he believes would be a successful season with the Black Knights.
“Personally, just as much game time as I can get and try and get back to — well, replicate the form I kind of had in the NPL, see if I can step it up into the A-League now again.
“And for the team, just another trophy would be amazing.”
