New Zealand tennis player Erin Routliffe and her partner have been beaten in the quarter-finals of the doubles at the US Open in New York.

Routliffe and Aldila Sutjiadi, of Indonesia, the ninth seeds, were beaten in straight sets by Americans Robin Montgomery and Ashlyn Krueger.

The unseeded Americans won 7-6, 6-5.

They now face second seeds Gaby Dabrowski, of Canada, and Luisa Stefani, of Brazil, in the semi-finals.

Flushing Meadows had been a favourite court for the 31-year-old Kiwi after she and Dabrowski won there in 2023 and 2025.

It is Routliffe’s best result in Grand Slams this year after failing to go further than the third round in any of the first three.

She has played with a number of partners this year and joined up with Sutjiadi at the Washington DC Open in late July.

Routliffe, who is a former world No 1 in doubles, is now ranked No 14 in the world.

Routliffe and Englishman Lloyd Glasspool were beaten in the first round of the mixed doubles earlier in the tournament.
