Scott Dixon to switch Indycar teams after 25 years - report
Kiwi Indycar great Scott Dixon is set to leave Chip Ganassi Racing, the team he has been with for a remarkable 25 years.
According to ESPN, the 45-year-old is set to sign a deal with Arrow McLaren. Indianapolis 500 champion Felix Rosenqvist, who drives for Meyer Shank Racing, is also tipped to join the team, with the pair to join Pato O’Ward at Arrow McLaren for the 2027 season.
Dixon is a six-time series champion (2003, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020) and holds the most wins of any active driver with 59 and set the all-time record for series starts in 2025.
Dixon currently sits 10th on the Indycar standings heading into this week’s event at Mid-Ohio, where he has a record seven wins.
Racer.com’s Marshall Pruett compared the reported move to NFL legend Tom Brady leaving the New England Patriots after 20 years to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at age 42 - who he led to a Super Bowl victory.
The Kiwi first joined Chip Ganassi Racing in 2002 in the Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) series before switching to Indycar the following year. Dixon claimed his maiden victory in the opening race of the season and went onto take out the Indycar title with another two victories.
Dixon’s best season was in 2008 when he won six races including his only Indianapolis 500 title to take out the Indycar title for a second time.
Despite a record six titles to his name, Dixon has been in the shadow of Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Alex Palou in recent years, with the Spaniard having won three of the last four titles and is the current leader on the standings with four victories already in 2026.
