Taiwanese arms package a major sticking point in US-China meeting

Taiwanese independence remains a sticking point in the US-China relationship despite Donald Trump describing a 'great meeting' with Xi Jinping.  

Washington has pulled out all the stops for the Chinese leader's three-day visit, but neither side is expecting any significant breakthroughs. 

Former US Ambassador Christopher R Hill told Ryan Bridge a multi-billion-dollar military package for Taiwan is awaiting Trump's signature.  

Hill suspects Trump will continue to hold off approving the arms sale as China's made clear it's a core issue.
