Fed Farmers voices outrage over human waste potentially being shipped to farmland

Central Otago District Council is set to vote on whether to send human waste over to farmland in Lauder, and Federated Farmers has voiced disapproval with the move.

The vote will determine whether thousands of cubic metres of sludge from Alexandra and Cromwell will be sent to the region.

Federated Farmers Otago president Anna Gillespie says this is being done to cut costs and there's no risk to the environment - but she's sceptical. 

"If there's no risk, why would you truck it an hour and a half down the road?"
