'Quite surprised': Firefighter who saved base jumper from Auckland tower recalls unique rescue
A Belgian man was left clinging to the outside of the Hotel Indigo on Albert Street after a base jump gone-wrong.
Fire and Emergency’s high angle rope rescue team had been deployed, and worked to reach the stranded jumper. Rescuers eventually brought them in through an apartment window.
Firefighter Darren Gussey was part of the team that pulled the man in to the hotel window, and he told Heather du Plessis-Allan that, 'you don't often see a person dangling from a parachute 23, levels up.'
