The Road Carriers Association says the Government delaying a fuel excise hike reflects election year political realities.

The Government's today cancelled the 12 cents a litre increase scheduled for next January - and will have to top up the Land Transport Fund, to the tune of $1.4 billion dollars.

Association Advocacy Head, James Smith, says successive Governments keep delaying funding.

"It just means that the gap in the national Land Transport Fund is going to come out of general taxation for yet another year."
